The Mercedes-Benz 300SL Coupe ( W198 ) " Gullwing " or gull wings , nicknamed later "Butterfly " was designed by Friedrich Geiger . It was presented for the first time to the public February 6, 1954 in the international trade fair in New York . its marketing will begin in August 1954 and ended in May 1957. it will be considered as the most iconic of the brand after the second World war , thanks to its technical qualities as its tubular frame and its unusual design associated with its doors butterfly and its smooth body like a pebble .
This fabulous car will enter the exclusive club of " Legend of Automobiles" .
Only 1400 copies will be produced , of which 29 will be made with a fully made of aluminum body , making this Limited Edition one of the most expensive car in the world .
